Through art one soul can speak to another, often without any words, through time and space. As a poet, though, I do believe words have power. I think artists have a duty in society to “speak” about those things that maybe others won’t speak about. In the end, this too shall pass. I do worry about when and about what the damage will be along the way. So I choose to put as much positive energy forward as I can, but I can’t help myself feel something bubbling up in my heart every so often. A feeling of objection, and a desire to say:
I disagree when it is implied that children are responsible for someone’s death. In any shape or form.
I disagree with any attacks on anybody’s faith or tradition, including the traditional family. As a single mom, and a person who’s always been a defendant of liberal views, I disagree with those views being imposed as a new kind of dogma.
I disagree with humans fearing humans for being human and developing an instinctive fear of all who walk and breath.
I disagree with freedom of movement being conditional on medical interventions such as testing and vaccination.
I disagree with masking outdoors, and especially masking children outdoors.
In the worst times of disaster, it is the human spirit fueled by love and cooperation, and often just a hug, that has gotten us this far as a civilization.
I disagree with propaganda. And censorship.
I disagree with a lot of things. I can go on. But if you can read between the lines and if you can flip each of those sentences that starts with “I disagree”, you’d see that I stand FOR that which is our essence – Love. Yet, in times like these, I would rather phrase it as a disagreement, because what is bound to kill love is the practice of complete and total compliance.
Every human emotion is justified and real, including fear.
But humans and human lives are not “cases” or statistics. Mere survival is not what we were put on this earth for. Granted, without it, there’s nothing else we can do. But if we do nothing but survive, what are we actually doing? And if I do nothing but agree, who is then leading my life instead of me?
