A broken marriage

My heart aches for you
And supposedly it’s not supposed to
But I let it nonetheless
It’s not a game of chess.

This too shall evaporate.

I sit quietly in the dark
Sirens shrieking through the night.

Longing causes pain.
What we do or don’t do—
It’s all the same.

I will surrender.
I will keep my name.
For a name, engraved on skin or stone
Is our belonging to a clan.

At least we had a plan.
Fools pay their dues.
Fools miss the clues.

This too shall evaporate.

Blood boils, blue.
What word should I use then,
And what word is for you?
